re·neger n.

Two weeks ago a hiring manager chastised McCrabby about some job applicants who never followed through on jobs he WANTED to offer.
"We have been hiring for the last 18 months. You have no idea how many people I've met who told me they want to work but then decide they want to wait until unemployment runs out.
I'm not chasing people down to give them jobs. That is the job of the person who wants to be hired.
... For every story you have about not being hired, I have the same story regarding people I've tried to hire. I don't care how old they are or what color they are I just want people who want to work. If people want jobs they need to follow up and show interest in being hired."
Will E. Wurkornot sent a resume, and then tried to follow up (but the hiring manager never left contact info), and now decided, two weeks later, to send a follow up letter.

Dear Juan,

I don't mean to offend, but you are a reneger.  I hate to use the "R" word, but you said you had jobs, you wanted people who followed through, and that you didn't want to "chase people down to give them jobs."  You reneged.

Well Juan, Will is here and ready to work, and qualified for your job, and following up, and, and, and....    Where are you Juan?  For every story you have about a candidate that doesn't follow up, I have one about a hiring manager who has no sense of decency.

I know hiring managers who talk a good game, yet never follow through.  I know hiring managers who will string a candidate along for six weeks, or six months, when they have no intention of hiring him/her.  And, I know hiring managers that are renegers.

Juan, where are you??

I am a hard worker, I have a strong resume and background, I'm willing to work for less than I used to make, and I'm available NOW.  I'm following up.

Will E. Wurkornot
Maybe not...
Maybe I'm being too aggressive; Juan, let me know what you want, and I can be that guy.  I will show you whatever level of assertiveness you want and need.  I just want the job you said you had open.

So Juan, what do you say?  Should I plan on starting Monday, or is that too aggressive?  How 'bout Wednesday??

Thank you.

Will E. Wurkornot
