Dear Hiring Mgr: Quit calling me; I'm busy

Dear McCrabby,

This seems to be getting worse.  The HR manager doesn't call back --- EVER.  S/he says s/he'll call in a week, a month, sometime... and never, EVER..  Sometimes I get an email with some boilerplate text about how qualified I am, and how much they like me, but they won't be offering me a job, which is at least something... BUT...

But, usually, NOTHING.  Why are they so heartless?

Dear NR in NR

You're right; McCrabby has touched on that, but a lot of people agree that it's gotten worse, not better.

In fact, Will E. Wurkornot wrote his ninth letter in a series of Hiring Manager letters; and we'll include it today.  It might work.  Sometimes a reverse psychology position may be enough to turn the tide in your favor.  We hope so.

Now Will's letter:

TO: Noah T. Wright
       Wright Now, Inc.

Dear Mr. Wright,

Please don't call me; I'm busy.

Since my interview with Wright Now, eight weeks ago, I have had three more interviews, I'm doing some volunteer work, and I took a part time contract assignment.  So, while I'm sure you intend to call me soon, because you said you'd get back to me in a week, I just won't have the time to spend with you for awhile.  So, I'm asking you to take a few more weeks.

In fact, why don't I just call you when I'm ready?  You've obviously been busy, so I'll just plan on getting back to you in another week, or two, or a month, or four.

No, really - I'll call you; you can count on it.  Your company was high on my list, had some great traits I was looking for,and we were very impressed by your credentials.  Just wait by the phone, and I'll get back to you soon.

But, make sure you answer when I call, because if I don't get you, I may just go on to the next company.

Thanks, Noah.  I'm sure we'll get in touch soon.

Looking forward to our next call, sometime.

Will E.Wurkornot

And, now a tip for hiring managers...  If you aren't responding to all applicants, that's understandable; there are a lot of them.  But, if you aren't responding to applicants who have taken the time to come in and interview, you should.  And, if you want to make it easy, there is a website that offers some standard rejection letters that will save you time.  It's not the best solution for the job-seeker, but like NR said, "it's something."  To view,  CLICK HERE

And, in case you'd like to read the rest of the series, it's all here:
