Will E. Wurkornot has written a series of letters to hiring managers, expressing his thoughts and emotions on the hiring process. Here is his latest in a series that has now reached seven (the others are linked at the bottom of this letter).

TO: Mr. Nathan Duing
Widgets, International
Mr. Duing,
Thank you for your email letter of three weeks ago, requesting an interview with me for Widget International. I apologize for the lack of a timely response, but I have been inundated with interview requests.
While Widget, Inc. has a quite impressive background, the large number of responses I have received, from a variety of worthy corporations, will require some time to properly process. I will be evaluating those requests over the next few weeks.
If your company is selected for an interview, you can expect a phone call at that time. If you are not selected, I will maintain your company information on file for six months, in case better opportunities do not pan out.
If, in the future, you would like to request another interview, please contact my office at that time. In the meantime, I would welcome you to look at my LinkedIn profile, where you will find my contacts, some of which may be interested in opportunities with your company. There may be opportunities for you there, in seeking out other qualified applicants.
Thank you for your interest in my career. I do appreciate the time you spent in contacting me.
I wish you the best on your candidate search.
Don't forget to sign up on the left or here (where it says "join this site") so we can see your picture on this site. And follow us on twitter (@curtmacrae), where we don't post much, but we'd love to see you there
