62 is the new 48 - Hire the old dog..

Would you want Gilligan running the island??

Dear McCrabby,

I would like to know why employers don't want to hire anyone over 40. Don't they know we have the experience and reliability they are looking for. I have been looking for work since July 2008. When I do get a response after the interview (and there aren't many of those) it is "you have the qualifications and experience we are looking for, but we have hired someone else". Bull crap! They don't want to hire me because I am 62.   But, I plan to work ten more years; do you think they'll get ten years outa that 30-something?

My experience is in accounting and office work. My last interview was a good one I thought. It was only a part time job for a propane company in customer service, but hey.....   I'll take just about anything now. I have applied at Walmart, Meijer, Target, Kmart, you name them.  NOTHING!!!

I read your reject the rejection piece on the guy who lost to NO ONE (Click HERE).  I'm writing my reject the rejection letter today.

Thanks for letting me blow off steam.

Dear Steaming,

62 is old???? Come on, 62 is the new 48, and how old is that? Are they thinking you're going to quit soon?

If you're anything like McCrabby, you've lost most of your net worth in the past five years, and you'll be working until you're 102 (which is the new 86, by the way).

McCrabby used to have a standard joke he used, saying "I plan to retire at 87."   Used to be a joke -- now it's a goal.  It always got a laugh, but now, McCrabby feels a tear well up when he tells that joke.  Oh well.

I feel your pain (OMG, I can't get that one McCrabby column out of my mind where we had all the cliches. Read "Weekend Satire -- Why is everyone reaching out?") , and McCrabby has said it before that hiring managers are missing the boat by letting some of this heavy experience and strong work ethic get away, simply because candidates might have a few years on them.

If you're a hiring manager, let's say this one more time: THERE ARE SOME STRONG CANDIDATES OUT THERE OVER 40, 50, 60. THEY HAVE EXPERIENCE, CAN MENTOR YOUNGER PEOPLE, AND HAVE A WORK ETHIC, AND A LOYALTY THAT MAY BE HARD TO MATCH, IF YOU'LL SIMPLY GIVE THEM A CHANCE.

Rocky got to be a better fighter in each movie.

Mr. Miyagi could have kicked Daniel-san's young butt,
and didn't Jed seem much wiser than Jethro?

Would you want young Gilligan running the island?

The defense rests..  Your reject the rejection letter is HERE.
