You rejected rejection? And now you're gettin' an interview?

You rejected rejection?  And now you're gettin' an interview?

Dear McCrabby,

You told us to reject rejection (REJECT REJECTION).  And, I know you said that was a joke, so not to really do it, but I thought, "what the H."

So I did. I took my last five rejections, and used your letter as a guide. I rejected them.

I actually got a call back from two of them (pretty good odds -- certainly a better response then I get from sending resumes).

One called because he didn't get it. The second one actually invited me in for an interview. Not sure if it'll go anywhere, but hey, I wasn't getting that interview before the letter, so thank you. I'll keep you posted.

Rejected, but not dejected, in Detroit

Dear Rejected.

Thanks for the feedback. McCrabby really does NOT recommend sending that letter (you can review that letter HERE), but let us know and if it works, we'll revise the enitre theory. Heck, we might start a whole new process.

We've had some people ask us to speculate what would happen in the scenario you described.

So, here goes, again:   As an added  service to the readers, here is the anticpated response from Human Resources, who, as you suggested, "didn't get it."  We're assuming honesty in this letter, so you know it's not real.

"Dear Mr. Wurkernot:

We are in receipt of your letter, of March 3, rejecting our January 24 letter of rejection. We are confused by your response, and would like to re-state our position.

While you were an excellent candidate for the position we posted, and while your skills were most impressive, there were several criteria where we simply felt your potential in this job was not a perfect fit for our needs at this time.

Hey Willie, let’s be honest; here are our real thoughts:
  • We found a much younger candidate, with less experience, who will do the job for less money, and isn’t likely to test our insurance benefits
  • HR measurements are based on hiring the most economical candidate that fits the job, regardless of the quality of the hire
  • The VP, who this position reports to, is 31 years old and didn't seem to want his dad working for him
  • You had entrepreneurial experience and we're looking for sheep
  • You wore a suit, spoke pretty good,  and didn't seem to understand our reference to Lady GaGa; we're looking for someone who is a little more hip
  • Your last name started with W and we got so many resumes, we cut it off at H
  • There was a pretty hot blonde that interviewed right after you; what would you do?
  • You would have felt left out, being the only employee without a tattoo
  • We just didn't "get" you
  • We may actually never hire for this position, but we're HR and we have to do SOMETHING to fill our day

Willie, we really hope you won't sue us because we'll just deny we said this stuff, and I don't even use my real name anyway, so good luck with that.

Not so sincerely,

Shirley Woodenhire"
