Dear McCrabby,

Billy the Kid -- Died in 1881

I heard that Billy the Kid is still guilty.  Is that true?

Dear F & U:

That's a load off, isn't it??  Billy the Kid, who died 129 years ago, is not going to get a pardon.  Isn't it reassuring that America's politicians are focusing on the important issues of our times?

NM Governor Billy the Richardson

With rampant unemployment, young people dying daily in Iraq and Afghanistan, ongoing Wall Street greed, and continuing government corruption, we have a governor spending his last days in office pondering the outcome of a 132-year-old crime.

McCrabby is feeling better.  Aren't you?  By the way, we're sorry you're in foreclosure.

The Associated Press reports that "Billy the Kid, the Old West outlaw who killed at least three lawmen and tried to cut a deal from jail with territorial authorities, won't be pardoned, Gov. Bill Richardson said Friday, nearly 130 years after the gunslinger's death."

On today's Good Morning America (GMA), Richardson said,  "I've decided not to pardon Billy the Kid because of a lack of conclusiveness and the historical ambiguity as to why Governor Wallace reneged on his pardon."   Huh?

For your information, the proposed pardon focused upon the 1878 killing of Lincoln County Sheriff William Brady. Billy the Kid was shot to death by Sheriff Pat Garrett in 1881, a few months after escaping from the jail.

Richardson's office received 809 e-mails and letters in a survey that ended Sunday (430 favored a pardon and 379 opposed).  WE DID A SURVEY?  AND, PEOPLE RESPONDED TO THIS SURVEY??

Richardson stated on GMA this morning that he had pondered this decision for eight years.    EIGHT YEARS!!!  REALLY??   This guy ran for president.

McCrabby had planned to write something today about resolutions, but this was just too important not to address.  We'll resolve to do resolutions in a day or two.  Here's hoping you'll come back.

Oh, by the way, just so you won't think everyone is crazy, two days ago, while all of this "pardon" decision was being discussed, New Mexico Governor-elect Susana Martinez said "there's an awful lot of work to be done for the state to be wasting so much time on Billy the Kid."   The incoming governor mentioned issues such as New Mexico needing to balance its budget.  She takes office tomorrow.

Maybe there is some hope.
